Permalink The mouth of a 22 inch Brown Trout, Medicine Bow National Forest, WyomingJust as my friend and I were both about to move on to fish a different stretch of water without any any luck, my friend lands this monstrous fighter of a 22 inch brown trout. (I happened to get GoPro video of the whole thing which may be included in a new fishing video I’m working on!) There is something to be admired about the beautiful colors and patterns on a large fish that has been surviving fisherman for many Wyoming winters!

Permalink Perigee Moonrise, Happy Jack, Medicine Bow National Forest, WyomingI went out last night to see the perigee moon (Supermoon) but unfortunately it was cloudy. By the time the moon peeked above the clouds it was already far above the horizon and looked much smaller. Nonetheless it was nice to take the Jeep and my dog miles into the hills on rocky dirt roads to watch the moonlight take over the night.

Permalink The Dirt Road Home, Happy Jack, Wyoming
I took this photo about a month ago. We have had such a warm winter, that miraculously the dirt roads leading into some of my favorite places are clear enough for my car to get through! I loved the texture of the dirt and the snow as the setting sun cast a warm glow on everything.
Permalink Four bull moose stroll across camp…I took this image when four bull moose decided to walk across the field right across from our camp! I was with a group of geologists camping in the edge of the forest deep in the Medicine Bow Mountains in August and we were in the process of making dinner when these four studs casually walked across the opening and into the forest not too many yards away. None of them seemed to pay us any attention. A group of people watched and took photos while we all were filled with the sense that we were are just visitors to these bulls stomping grounds. A very cool experience!
Permalink Forest at 11,000 Feet“Wind Blown Ice on Alpine Trees, Snowy Range Mountains, Wyoming”

This is what a forest looks like at 11,000 feet in June on the Medicine Bow Peak Trail on the way to the peak of the Snowy Range Mountains in Wyoming. The wind is always whipping down the slopes from the west and causes these (what I call) ‘ice bullets’ in one direction. Its amazing that these hardy trees survive this battering every winter (or should I say spring).
